When did you last feel great?

As we head into the darker, colder months of the year, it’s not just the shorter days that make us feel unable to get through all our ‘normal’ range of activities. It could be that we are not getting the right mix of vitamins that our bodies and minds need to make good healthy lifestyle choices. After all, it’s only when our health, fitness, state of mind and diet are aligned, that we can truly feel like we are 100% ourselves.

Piroska’s Career Transformation Story

Time to Bloom!

Time to Bloom!

Hello here we are racing towards Easter. Thinking about rejuvenating ourselves and maybe starting new things.

I have started my Msc in Cosmetic Medicine. What are you thinking of starting?

I don’t know about you but I felt Mothers Day was especially poignant given world events. To all the amazing strong mums who are in war torn parts of the world still being the best mums they can be- I salute you.

I was lucky enough to spend time with  my two gorgeous girls and eat some amazing food at The Crescent Turner Hotel.

My Girls.

This month I wanted to share a very special patient journey with you. You will have seen Ella in an earlier post about thread lifting. This is an interview she gave sharing her journey and for anyone who still thinks aesthetics is vein or shallow they  should see this:

Ella Jackson is a 59 year old senior midwife. At 57 she suffered a stroke which left one side of her face, In her words, ‘droopy’.

“The stroke caused me to temporarily lose the feeling down my left side, I couldn’t use my left hand or arm. My face felt heavy and still. It rocked my confidence and scared me. When I looked in the mirror I saw an old woman with a lopsided face and I wasn’t even 60. I was also suffering with post stroke chronic pain and fatigue which showed. I was really low”

It is a common misconception that strokes happen to the over 70’s. However, a report from Public Health England found that over a third of first time strokes happen in adults between the ages of 40 to 69. 49% of women have strokes and there are 1.3 million stroke survivors in the UK.

Ella turned to me for help. Ella liked and trusted the fact that I am  a former midwife. I think it is because  a midwife is a certain type of person, we care and that never leaves us, even when we leave the profession. My clinic is a safe space and I want to improve people’s lives, not make them into Barbie dolls. Keeping my clients safe and improving their wellbeing is paramount.

I treated Ella with thread lifts and Botox around her eyes and mouth to correct the asymmetry. I also filled one side of her lip. It’s all about balancing the face and in this case we were able to get back the symmetrical look to Ella’s face. Ella says that she had never thought to have aesthetics. “I am seen as a bit alternative and very much a feminist, so my friends were shocked that I was seemingly conforming to societal norms. I felt it was the opposite, the treatment was offering me a lifeline. I have never wanted to look like anyone else but me and I wasn’t interested in looking younger, but I did want to like and feel comfortable with what I saw in the mirror. I knew Piroska was a former midwife and would follow safe practices. I took the aesthetics plunge, and I haven’t looked back.”

Ella says that her confidence in her appearance has returned, and it has even spurred her on to start running again as she gave that up when she temporarily lost the feeling down one side from the Stroke. “Next year I turn 60 and I couldn’t be happier in-spite of ongoing challenges including rehabilitation and surgery. Colleagues used to comment that I looked drawn and in pain all the time, now they say I look fresh and bright. My self-worth is still determined by me and I choose to be proactive and make the best of what I have even in times when I still feel shaken by the experience of a stroke and it’s aftermath. I think Piroska is inspirational in her approach to life and makes aesthetics accessible to everyone”

Ella post stroke pre treatment.

Ella and I on her journey.

Ella today.

This month I also did an interview for BBC news about the aesthetics industry not being regulated and the government taking steps to change that. It is so important. I have ensured the clinic is as regulated as possible by becoming Care Quality Commission (CQC) registered. The same level of  care and accountability is required of me and the clinic as it is for hospitals, GP surgery’s, Dentists and care homes.

CQC regulated activities include:

Thread Lifting

IV and IM nutrient Supplementation

Weight-Loss

If you see these offered any where that isn’t CQC registered then they are breaking the law and you may have no come back if anything goes wrong. Always choose safety first.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CanTQSpsqBD/?utm_medium=share_sheet

Weight-Loss is a specialism of mine as an Obesity and Weight Management specialist and I was delighted this month to contribute to an article in Dazed on line regarding the alarming ease people who do not need to lose weight can access the medication I prescribe on the Sese Slim Plan. The medication in the wrong hands has the potential to cause serious side effects.

Read more here.

Talking about weight loss and wanting to shed some extra pounds as we move through spring, lots of you tell me you are inspired to move but are put off by the cost and also getting out in public. I help a lot of patients with this and a great way to get stared is to think outside the box. Take a peek at this:

How to stop hating exercise – Don’t let exercise become the enemy.

‘Muscle Destroys Fat’

First, some statistics, you are not alone! 50% of adults in the UK are overweight but we can change that. I am a weight loss specialist as well as a former midwife. Clinic Sese is a CQC weight loss regulated clinic. Let me explain why muscle is so important to our health and our weight loss journey. Muscle burns fat for fuel. This  is important as a build up of excess fat triggers  inflammation. If you are overweight then you have a lot more fat cells which can lead to chronic inflammatory diseases such as diabetes.

‘Anyone can get moving’

Here at Clinic Sese I am on a mission to change the way you think about exercise. I know how difficult it is to get motivated. Many of my patients start off horrified at the thought of joining a class or going to a gym and I get that. Many of them fall into the morbidly obese category. They are frightened that they are just too big to exercise and will do serious damage to themselves as well as be embarrassed.

‘Unconventional exercising’

I don’t go in for conventional exercise! One of my clients refused to leave the house to exercise as she felt ashamed. Others tell  me how they love to dance. If this is you build a playlist and dance to it for 10 minutes each day. You will start to notice a real difference and get so much joy out of it. Start to slowly build your confidence and set achievable goals. If like some of my other patients and you want to get back to an activity you loved like sailing or cycling or kayaking make that your focus . Their motivation was to get back onto the water and into the saddle which they did by doing some of the exercises below:

‘Plan to start exercising’

Dancing: Choose 5-10 minutes worth of music, stand up and move to the music – fling yourself about and have fun.

Stairs: Walk up and down your stairs 5 times.

On the sofa: Invest in a pedal exerciser and cycle your way through Eastenders or Corrie whilst sitting on the sofa.

Walking: Fill up a backpack with baked bean tins and do 10 laps of your house.

Squats: Fill a backpack with bottles of water and do 5 – 10 squats.

Bath: In the bath reach out your arms straight in front of you try and reach the taps 5 times to start, try and increase to 10.

Bed: Lie flat and lift each leg off the bed 5 times or however much you can manage.

Skipping rope: Use a skipping rope and start by just swinging it and slowly stepping over.

Start off by doing one or a mixture of any of the above exercises for 10 minutes 3 times a week. Once you start to build confidence you may decide to move outside and start walking. Once you are outside walking, build steps and hills into your routine. If you live by the beach walk on the sand or shingle as it will help with resistance. In the countryside go onto footpaths as that terrain is harder than pavements. The most common reason I get from patients as to why they are not doing any activity or exercise is ‘I don’t have time’. Just take a second t work out how much time you spend scrolling on your phone after work or in the morning. Or how long you sit on the sofa for after dinner. You can choose to do some activity that will improve your health in that time-what are you waiting for?

Piroska’s Career Transformation Story

Turn Back the Years for Mothers Day

Mothering is work and it shows up in our hands, face and bodies. This Mothering Sunday, you can treat your mum to anti-ageing aesthetics at Clinic Sese followed by a gorgeous afternoon cream tea at The Turner Crescent Hotel in Whitstable.

Turning Back the Years

Anti-ageing aesthetics offer a longer-lasting, rejuvenating result than skin care alone can deliver.

For noticeable yet subtle results, the treatments that hydrate, plump and boost elastin and collagen are among the most rejuvenating and refreshing. It’s a super way to reduce the impact of sleepless nights with babies, waiting up for teenagers and all the cleaning, laundry and dusting throughout the years.

Personalised Treatment for Hands, Face & Neck

Every body is unique and requires a personalised treatment plan to address specific concerns whether on the face, neck, décolletage or hands.

Profhilo alone has a significant impact on lifting skin that sags, maybe around the eyes or cheeks, but also between knuckles and finger bones or on our neck and décolletage. It’s a treatment that works to revitalise a younger skin structure by stimulating collagen and elastin production to tighten or smooth dull, scaly, crepey, sagging skin.

Combining anti-ageing treatments such as Profhilo with hydro boosting therapy goes further to address hydration concerns. As we age, our skin loses its ability to hold on to water and is why we can sometimes feel that our favourite moisturisers or serums have ‘stopped working’. Injectable treatments are an effective way of getting ‘under the bonnet’ to improve the structure and health of your skin.

A combination of treatments can be an effective strategy for longer-lasting visible results as the treatments combine to improve the overall internal structure of the skin.

Following treatment, many women feel that they feel that make-up and skin care performs better. Some women also report feeling a greater confidence in wearing no-make up; comparing to wearing an ‘instagram-filter’ in real life.

Mother’s Day: CCQ-Regulated Anti-Ageing Aesthetics AND a Cream Tea

The Clinic Sese treatment begins with a consultation to assess your mothers’ (and maybe yours too) anti-ageing goals and to consider her medical history and lifestyle.

It’s the perfect time to ask about how treatments are delivered, what the downtime might be (minimal for many treatments), and when the impact will be visible. We’ll also discuss a maintenance plan to support the long-lasting effects of her treatment and book a post-treatment review to assess her results.

On the day of treatment, we recommend following up your treatment with a gorgeous afternoon tea at The Turner Crescent Hotel. With views across Whitstable towards the sea, this is the place to reflect on those memorable mothering moments.

Piroska’s Career Transformation Story

Springing into 2022

It has been a great start to 2022 with several appearances including BBC Radio 4 Woman’s Hour, BBC evening News, Meridian News,  The Sun, KMFM and The East Kent Gazette. How’s your February been?

Winter months can feel as if they are dragging on and dragging you down. If you are feeling low in energy and mood it could be time to consider some supplements to support your wellbeing, B12, B Complex, Vitamin C ,Glutathione.

These supplement injections and drips can make a real difference to how you feel and how you look. They can support your immune system, help boost energy levels and fight free radicals improving the condition of your skin.

It is super important to consider what is going on inside your body including what you put in it when you want to improve how it looks on the outside. ‘Maintaining your skin comes from within’.

This includes sleep. How good is yours? Not just the hours you get but the quality of your sleep. Consider the temperature of your room, have some air flow, keep hydrated, drink some water before you sleep, avoid looking at your phone in bed and get some ear plugs if your partner or pet snores!

What you eat also affects your mood and your appearance. Ultra Processed Food (UPF) is any packaged or ready meals (containing more than 4 ingredients or any you wouldn’t have in your kitchen) or fast foods. These foods offer high fat high carb and high sugar hits giving you an initial boost but triggering an inflammatory response which can affect your gut and your skin, lower your mood, increase anxiety and your weight.

It is easy to slip into comfort eating in the winter months so as we head to spring start to add more vegetables, nuts and seeds to your diet. Fill up on more protein, meat, fish, eggs and tofu and start swapping out fast foods for fresh.

Get moving. You don’t have to rush out and join a gym or start running. Pop on your coat and step outside the front door and walk. 20 minutes a day is enough to boost your mood and your circulation, refreshing your system and giving your skin a glow. To add a little resistance pop a couple of small bottles of water or tins of beans in your pockets. This small additional weight helps you work harder without really noticing.

High five yourself! Yes, in the mirror give yourself a high five! Your relationship with you is the most important one you will ever have. Every time you make a small positive change that makes you feel better, congratulate yourself. Making even small changes when you have been in the dark of winter can be tough so be proud of yourself and head into spring with your bounce back.

5 reasons to join the Slim Sese Workshop & Lunch

The Slim Sese workshop and lunch is scheduled for Saturday 22 January. You’ll learn more about yourself as well as more about Clinic Sese – more than a fun lunch, this is your key to freedom from overeating. If that’s not reason enough – here’s five more:

1. Real people, real experiences

In our workshop, you’ll hear from people who have put Sese Slim through its paces according to their needs, their goals and their personal obstacles. It’s a really valuable way of understanding the strengths of the programme and how it works in real life for busy people who have struggled with other diet and exercise plans.

2. Straight talking

You won’t hear us talking about points. We don’t assign unhelpful values to the food you eat. You will not have to buy a new wardrobe of active wear.

You will come away with tools and strategies that will make a difference to the success of any diet plan. So even if Slim Sese isn’t for you, you will be able to apply lots of other ideas that will improve the likelihood of successfully managing your weight in future.

3. Complete lifestyle plan

Unlike so many other exercise plans and nutritional plans alone, Sese Slim is a medically-supervised plan that includes medicated weight loss tools. We will explain how they work and who they work for.

On their own, neither diets, exercise or medicated tools are not enough to sustain positive weight management – the multi-faceted nature of Sese Slim need to be place in a plan that addresses lots of other critical elements beyond the typical demands to increase activity and eat less.

4. Success is yours

Slim Sese is a fully supported plan that is shaped around your needs and the particular obstacles you face. Our Medical Director, Piroska Cavell, will be with you every step of the way, guiding you to a weight managed way of life that works for the wholeness of you.

In our workshop, Piroska will talk frankly about accountability. The successes you achieve with Slim Sese will be your own and will establish a refreshed, positive lifestyle that you will actively seek to maintain.

5. Enjoy your life

As the people who have chosen Slim Sese will attest, this programme can change your perspective on much more than food. However, you will need to eat and eat well. We will be serving a delicious, healthy lunch – straightaway giving you inspiration to make changes that you will add joy to your life.

Clinic Sese is based at The Crescent Turner Hotel and the workshop will take place in their elegant tipi with views across the town of Whitstable and the Swale. If you haven’t already seen this view, then this will be the first of many new perspectives you can look forward to with Slim Sese.

Buy your ticket to the Slim Sese Workshop & Lunch today.

Saturday 22 January 2022, 10am-12:30pm, £25 per person.

Piroska’s Career Transformation Story

Reset and Refresh for 2022

Making plans in 2022 is the most fun when you trust the people who will connect with you along the way. Your anti-ageing aesthetic ambitions are the same – plan your treatments with a trusted clinic and aesthetician and get ready to make the most of the next 12 months. Piroska Cavell, our Medical Director and Founder, sets out the potential on offer:

Mind

The brilliant, most amazing thing about our mind is that we can change it at any time. We don’t need to wait for a New Year to reset our plans, create new habits or simply take on board new information and see the world differently.

This way of thinking is at the root of our Slim Sese weight management plan. We put a personalised range of tools to work in supporting you in a medically supervised weight management programme.

We are holding a workshop & lunch on Saturday 22 January at The Crescent Turner Hotel, where you can learn more about how it works and who it works for. Tickets are £25 per person and available from our Eventbrite page.

Body

Looking after your body with advanced anti-ageing aesthetic treatments can do wonders to tackle the stubborn areas of fat that interrupt your silhouette  – in spite of an active, healthy lifestyle.

We can target the pockets of fat on, say, your stomach, thighs, hips, back, arms and flanks and trigger thermogenesis – heating and dissolving fat cells which are then discarded by your normal bodily processes.

For some people, it’s the texture of their skin that bothers them. A personalised combination of Profhilo, hydro boosters and Mesotherapy can make a significant impact on turning back the clock on their hands, knees, upper arms, décolletage, stretch marks and stomach.

It’s likely that more than one treatment would be required to achieve the desired result and certainly, timing each combination of treatment can also improve the longevity of results.

We would undertake a detailed consultation with you to ensure that your treatment plan takes account of your medical history, lifestyle and timing for any specific target dates for optimum results.

Every great aesthetic treatment plan starts with a consultation. This is where you talk about what you want to achieve to subtly achieve a smoother, fresher look.

Face

The most talked about treatments such as Botox and Filler are often most effective when used in combination with other injectables such as Profhilo and Mesotherapy which are used to boost collagen and elastin production as well as hydrating, brightening and smoothing the skin.

How treatments are scheduled across the weeks and months of 2022, will have an impact on the longevity of results as well as determining when the results will be at their peak.  So if you have a wedding, a holiday or a reunion where you would like to look like the best version of you, we recommend booking your initial consultation sooner rather than later.

Your consultation is the place to ask about my professional and medical qualifications as a leading aesthetic nurse. Clinic Sese is CQC-regulated which means we work to a higher standard than high street beauty salons. You’ll be able to look at before and after images of other client treatments and discuss recovery times and maintenance regimes.

Call Clinic Sese on 07395 046 957 and book your consultation today.

Piroska’s Career Transformation Story

Inspire Yourself to Successful Weight Management

Graffiti "And so I choose to begin again"

Piroska Cavell explains why abstinence and control doesn’t work and how self awareness gives us all the inspiration we need for weight management success.

When I think about weight management, there’s one word that chills my blood. Control. Throughout the year, so many people are dieting, running, lifting, dancing, cycling their way to their target shape or weight thinking that they are in control.

Then along comes Christmas and all the wheels fall off their plan. Someone’s pushing food onto their plate, a drink into their hand all the while someone else is telling them how they need to do more, do less, do it differently.

Other people’s words can have an extraordinary power and derail someone’s commitment to healthy, effective decisions. It can beademoralising time for the control-seeking dieter. They think they’ve failed and spin out to a yo-yo experience of putting the weight back on until they next feel the urge to chase for control again.

It’s really not fair, because although they had stuck to the plan, they just didn’t have a supportive framework in place for when they weren’t in control of their day.

There is an antidote to the control method of weight management though, and it is holistic.

Holistic weight management(the basis of the Slim Sese plan) means looking at all aspect of your lifestyle and establishing patterns and general habits that will overall keep you on track to your goals.

It means that you’ll be better equipped to navigate Christmas excesses and get back on track the next day. And if friends or relatives belittle your new habits or weight management goals, you’ll know their words are their problem; not yours.

When challenges occur or you reach a plateau in your weight loss or gain, instead of being dissatisfied or thinking you are unsuccessful, an holistic approach encourages you to reflect on why you started on your weight management journey in the first place.

Give yourself a high five for deciding to build new habits. It takes practice and repetition to build a new habit, but if you slip, that’s okay. You are looking for overall consistency not perfection. You are ready to get back on track to how you live now.

With an holistic approach to the way you manage your weight, you can be happy to treat Christmas as the exception because your goal was never to abstain from everything. Instead, your aim is to recognise what just enough means for your body.

That can mean just enough of Christmas feasting to enjoy the moment, and just enough time to jump back on the weight management wagon so that you can make just enough of a weight loss to improve your physical and mental health.

It only takes a 5% shift in body weight to make a significant difference to your health outcomes – whether you are seeking to gain or lose weight.

So although an holistic approach means looking at all aspects of your lifestyle and modifying or flexing your goals accordingly, you’ll have the benefits of lots of little successes along the way.

That’s all the motivation I need to let go of control and say hello to an holistic understanding of your personal weight management journey.

Piroska’s Career Transformation Story

In Focus: Definisse Thread Lift

Here’s the first of our In Focus series where we shine a light on a patient’s journey into advanced anti-ageing aesthetics.

In her consultation with Piroska, E explained her concerns with the ageing effect of sagging around her jawline and a corresponding loss of volume and structure in her cheeks.

Following a discussion of alternative options, risks and safety measures, a ‘J-lift’ with Definisse Threads by ReLife was identified as a technique that would resolve both concerns

As the name suggests, the technique uses thread lift technology to lift up the cheek, and simultaneously tighten along the curve of the jaw line. Piroska also added free floating threads in the cheek area.

As the photos above show, the downtime following the J-lift was minimal. On the day after treatment, there was some swelling and dimpling. This is pretty normal after procedures of this type.

At the two week review, E identified some dimpling on her left side of her jawline. Again this can be a natural occurrence in the body’s healing process and highlights the importance of follow-up reviews to assess and adjust the treatment.

Piroska adjusted the thread and resolved the dimpling during the two-week review session. E was satisfied with the outcome of fuller cheeks and improved definition of her cheek bones and  jawline.

We were very pleased to receive a further photos three weeks after the initial treatment. E’s smile indicates her satisfaction with the results.

The Psychological Benefits of Aesthetic Treatments

Woman in nature holding a mirror up to see her best self - and smiling.

This article first appeared on Glowday.com on 13 April 2021.

Does wanting cosmetic treatments like anti-wrinkle injections, lip fillers or a non-surgical facelift simply make us vain or self-centred? Many of you will be happy to discover that the answer is no, according to studies. Aesthetic practitioner Piroska Cavell, owner of Clinic Sese, explains all and offers insight into why they might actually boost our wellbeing.

Surprisingly, there is still a percentage of the population whose perception of aesthetic treatments is that they are either shallow, vain or just unnecessary, and this view is often perpetuated by a substantial amount of conflicting negative commentary in the media and social media. Meanwhile, at the same time, there’s a fascination with emulating celebrity, trying to work out who has had ‘anything done,’ and if so, what – triggering a trend. A great example of this being the obsession with the Kardashians’ lips and rears. There is also a type of aesthetic shaming on individuals in the public eye who appear to have undergone treatments, promoting the response of flat denial, as with J.Lo. Obviously, only she knows for sure if she has undergone any aesthetic treatments, but we would all love to know the brand of that olive oil-for sure!

Social media and self-comparison

Social media itself is often held up as being responsible for the rise in this desire to change facial features, reverse the signs of ageing and the aspiration/celebrity culture. These days, more and more patients show me pictures of themselves on their own social media, pointing out what they perceive as the ‘problem’. Whilst there is without doubt an element of self-comparison with social media and general media images, studies have produced evidence that suggests it is only those already with a tendency towards perfectionism who are likely to become obsessed with their appearance due to social media and media images (McComb & Mills, 2021).

Men are more likely to be concerned with their body shape and muscle bulk, and teenage girls have the potential to become susceptible to the ‘thin ideal’. However, aesthetic practitioners shouldn’t be treating teenage girls. I don’t treat anyone under the age of 21. For some, this aspirational comparison behaviour can become extreme, and in rare cases this can lead to the more serious condition of body dysmorphia and trigger eating disorders (Halliwell, 2013). A full consultation should be the prerequisite to any treatment, helping to identify those with a deeper issue and enable the practitioner to refer them to the appropriate help.

Patients focused on ‘getting fixed’ can be vulnerable to exploitation by unscrupulous practitioners, resulting in unnecessary treatments. This is one of several reasons why I would advise patients to seek out a medical practitioner. Whether it is a nurse, a midwife like me, or a doctor, we are bound by a duty of care and a code of conduct. If a medical practitioner were to behave other than professional and clinical without evidence for their actions, they would risk being investigated and potentially struck off.

Focusing on our flaws

It’s a natural response to be automatically drawn to look at what you perceive to be the flaw on your face when you look in the mirror, and it can feel like the most prominent feature to you. However, others will not see what you do, and they will look at your whole face. This is something I saw repeatedly in my photographic studio. When people looked at pictures of themselves, they always looked for the ‘flaw’ first. I see this daily now when I meet patients and ask them to look in the mirror and tell me what they see.

We all know how a bad hair day can affect your mood. Or how not being happy with your weight or a certain outfit can alter your confidence levels and self-esteem. Ever stood in front of the mirror and thought ‘I can’t go out with hair like this, I look awful!’? Or ‘this outfit looks rubbish; it makes me look fat/old/unfashionable’. If your reflection does not meet your expectation it can trigger a very negative narrative from your inner voice.

For many, this can just make us feel a little self-conscious. This is referred to as your appearance orientation, which reflects your cognitive behavioural investment in your appearance. Negative feelings about your body and appearance are considered one of the most important global measures of stress related to the body (Vossbeck-Elsebuschet al, 2014). Most of us can counter these feelings with perspective and rationale. Psychologists have identified this response as ‘body appreciation’ (Halliwell, 2013), where you are aware of the bits of your appearance you are not so keen on, but you can also identify the bits you do like. For example, maybe you don’t like those two lines between your eyebrows (your 11s) but you love your lips. For a while using a bright lipstick to draw attention away from your lines will work for you, but over time you may well decide that the lipstick is no longer cutting it.

The added benefits of cosmetic treatments

Despite the sometimes-negative publicity and misinformation surrounding aesthetic treatments such as anti-wrinkle injections, dermal fillers, Profhilo, PDO threads, and mesotherapy, they remain increasingly popular, and the reasons for men and women seeking these treatments range from a wide variety of reasons. For some it is as simple as maintenance. They are comfortable with themselves but not ready to live with the signs of ageing that may start to creep in. They maintain regular treatments as an essential part of their self-care routine. In terms of weight loss, they may just want to lose a few pounds to maintain their figure or use intralipo therapy such as Deso Face and Deso Body to dissolve a few stubborn lumps and bumps to improve their silhouette and the line of their clothes, freeing themselves from their Spanx! But, for others there is a deeper reason.

I treated a patient in her mid 50s who had survived a mild stroke. Whilst happy to be alive, this vibrant, intelligent, attractive woman was devastated. She was recently divorced, funny, intelligent, sociable and outgoing – until the stroke left her with a noticeable droop on one side of her mouth. This visible sign of what had happened to her impacted hugely on her self-perception. She was not ready for this event. She had lost most of her confidence and was no longer socialising. We discussed what could be done, and a combination of injectable treatments – Botox and Dermal Filler – resulted in the correction of her mouth. A relatively small treatment for me to perform but a game changer for her. She messaged me a few days later, thanking me ‘for giving her back her confidence’. In her words, the treatment ‘had totally transformed her confidence and self-esteem, and given her back her life’.

I have also treated patients who simply found the signs of ageing overwhelming. They invested so much in keeping their body in great shape and maintaining their health but the external signs of ageing on their skin impacted negatively on their mood and ability to socialise. I have seen the same effect in people who may have been bullied when they were younger about a feature such as the shape of their nose. Also, in patients who have begun to feel self-conscious due to constantly being asked if they are unhappy or tired because of lines on their face. When the level of self-consciousness affects your ability to maintain normal social interaction, it is what psychologists term ‘impaired psychosocial function’.

The connection with self-perception and psychosocial function has been a serious topic of study since the 1950s, with several studies developing various social science theories used to study the way humans dress and behave (Rudd 1991). Whilst today the drivers may be primarily focused on self-satisfaction, the desire for self-improvement is not new. Human beings around the world have always used body adornment and modification to improve their looks, and enhance and increase their attractiveness and confidence (Roach-Higgins & Eischer 1992).

So, the good news is that it’s a fact – you are not vain, or shallow if you have aesthetic treatments and they make you feel happier with yourself and boost your self-esteem. You are doing what our ancestors around the world have been doing forever. You only have to watch the show 10 Years Younger on Channel 5 to see what an impact these treatments can have on some people. And whilst it should never be claimed that aesthetic treatments themselves are life changing, their effect on your self-confidence can be.

Piroska’s Career Transformation Story

Resolving Winter Skin Issues

It's snowing. She's wrapped up in her coat, hat and shades.

For many of us the cold winter winds are cutting through and causing dryness, sensitivity and perhaps even an awareness of pigmentation concerns. Let’s take a look at the range of solutions on offer for Clinic Sese clients.

Nourish your skin

The best way to protect your skin is from the inside out; improving your skin at the cellular level and boosting collagen production from the inside.

For dehydration and smoothing rough skin hydroboosters such as Profhilo are perfect. Profhilo is a type of hyaluronic acid  that boosts collagen production and draws water in to the skin. This hydrates plumps and smooths crepey skin giving you a fabulous healthy glow. It is injected in to specific points on the face, neck and body and it spreads under the skin without adding volume.

Mesotherapy is an injectable serum and can be administered in different formulas. Sometimes as a hyaluronic acid hydrobooster or as a cocktail of amino acids and hyaluronic acid or a cocktail of amino acids, hyaluronic acid and Botox.

Mesotherapy acts at a deeper level than Profhilo and can be used across all areas of the face including the delicate under eye area. It is administered by a serious of micro-injections under the skin. It is designed to rehydrate and brightening the skin while stimulating collagen and fibroblast production at a cellular level to improve and reduce pigmentation and dramatically  improving skin quality.

Over the course of the winter months, as we lose summer colour, we can become more aware of dark spots and sun damage. Targeted mesotherapy micro-injections are more effective in reducing hyper pigmentation and repairing damage from UV rays than laser treatments.

These treatments visibly defeat the effects of winter and ageing within 24 hours. There is very little if any down time.

Switch to Winter Maintenance

Adjusting your skincare routine in winter is all about protecting your skin barrier. This is the time to think about hydration from within and with effective skincare – in short, drink water and reach for hyaluronic acid and other water grabbing ingredients.

If you use retinol, you might want to reduce the frequency of use and/or the strength of your treatments. Consider replacing it with the Haeckles Earth Marine Water just 2-3 times a week at bedtime. AHA 4% is a mild resurfacing solution packed with antioxidants to feed the skin from natural algae extracts. It is available form the Clinic at just £30. As with all of Haeckels products it is vegan friendly and made locally in Kent.

Despite the cloud cover in the winter months, it is vital to keep applying SPF to your face on a daily basis. SPF isn’t only for skiers or runners, everyone can benefit from the protective, anti-ageing qualities of SPF.

I love the Altruist range as it is cruelty free and another local brand developed by Kent consultant dermatologist Dr Andrew Binny. It is light enough to go under make up it absorbs super quickly with no residue and is available from the clinic in a spray or cream at the unbelievable price of £5.

Tackling Sensitivity

Your skin may feel more sensitive due to changes in the weather, increased heating level in doors dehydrating and irritating the skin.

I recommend the use of use of Haeckels serums. The two favourites here in the clinic include the Algae Plump +B3 (£20) containing ocean expolysaccarides that are three times more effective than hyaluronic acid based serums at attracting and holding water, or the Bio Kelp Ferment (£22), a hydrating serum rich in antioxidants that is particularly effective for sensitive skin promoting healthy cell function. You need very little of either of these for great results.

Pop on the Eco Marine Cream Moisturiser (£48) just a tiny amount, over your serum to seal in the serum and protect the dermal matrix from further dehydration. Don’t forget your lips. Often chapped and dry in Winter. The Haeckels Natural Lip Balm (£16) will keep them supple  smooth and kissable.

If there’s something here that you would like to explore further, drop into the Clinic for Haeckels skincare or Altruist SPF or call us to book your consultation for Profhilo or Mesotherapy treatments.

Piroska’s Career Transformation Story

When did you last feel great?

Discover your best self and feel good inside and out.

Are you eating your greens?

A healthy diet goes a long way to deliver the vitamins we need, but modern life is busy creating a lot of challenges too; perhaps we don’t get outside as much as should or maybe we don’t enjoy eating all the greens that we need.

If you are up for the challenge – and I hope you are – improving your diet is a great place to start with sparking up your state of mind and your vitamin intake with healthy choices.

So who needs vitamin supplements?

Let’s start with the fact that every body is different. From birth, our bodies are unique, so we each need a personalised mix of proteins, vitamins and minerals in order to process and absorb the nutrients we require for a healthy body and mind. We may need supplements to bring hormones, vitamins and minerals into alignment with our body’s individual needs.

Then there’s a matter of ageing. In our teenage years, puberty sends our hormones on a rollercoaster of changes. The way we think and sleep changes through this past of life. A supportive vitamin regime can address a wide range of deficiencies related to seratonin and melatonin that underpin a regular sleep pattern and a good frame of mind for communication and learning.

Getting older, our ability to absorb vitamins declines and that can have a direct impact on our energy, our state of mind and our physical health. A detailed medical review and potentially a blood test, can tell us how well our body is processing, absorbing and disposing of vital vitamins and minerals. Again, targeted supplements are simpler to monitor for effectiveness and limit the risks associated with mega-dosing.

Add hormonal changes to the mix – from menustration and pregnancy through to perimenopause and menopause – and women might see a number of symptoms that are made worse by vitamin deficiency, such as brain fog, hair loss, sagging skin, changes to our sleep pattern and fatigue. Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) might address many of these issues, but it’s may also be worth exploring how symptoms may be resolved or managed with supplements since vitamins play a key role in triggering or calming hormonal responses.

The risks and limitations of over the counter vitamins

Over the counter vitamin supplements are promoted in ways that encourage you to feel that you are in control. However, there are three key ways that they offer an unsatisfactory solution to vitamin deficiencies:

First, vitamins delivered in pill form, have travel via your digestive system first. If you have a minimal vitamin requirement, it’s possible that will be sufficient, but it’s more likely that your body will break down and excrete these supplements well before they can reach the organs or part of your body that need them.

For your body to absorb vitamins effectively, they often need to be delivered in combination with supporting vitamins and minerals. They also need to be delivered in a sustained and ongoing basis to give your body the opportunity it needs to respond to the new supply.

The second way that over the counter supplements are unhelpful is that can give you what you don’t want and don’t need.

Effervescent vitamin supplements, for example, can contain up to 1g of salt per tablet. Multi-vitamins may include ingredients that you don’t need. And if you are mixing and matching pills, you may unwittingly mega-dose on vitamins in ways that are damaging to your health.

Third, your body’s vitamin requirements will change over time. Taking the same over the counter supplements for months or years at a time may well waste your cash or harm your health.

The value of medical supervision

When you choose medically supervised vitamin supplements, you can be sure that you will receive safe, relevant and effective doses, which will be administered usually by injection or intravenously on a weekly basis for 6-12 weeks.

The advantages are clinically proven:

  • You will be given the correct supplements for your individual needs.
  • The vitamins will be delivered straight into your blood stream, enabling your body to transport the vitamins directly to where they are needed.
  • Vitamins will be delivered in a supportive formula of vitamins and minerals that aid absorption.
  • Supplements will be delivered on a weekly basis enabling your medical professional to monitor your body’s response to treatment.

At Clinic Sese, Piroska Cavell, our Medical Director, directly supervises and administers all mineral and vitamin treatments. She’s qualified to do this as a qualified aesthetics practitioner and registered midwife (RMW). She has a PGCert in Independent and Supplementary Prescribing and is a member of the Association of Intravenous Micronutrient Supplementation (AIMS).

Full details of Piroska’s accreditations can be found here.

Piroska’s Career Transformation Story

Your Perfectly Personalised Plan

Piroska Cavell, Medical Director, Clinic Sese

At Clinic Sese, our guiding ethos is to support you on your journey to feeling good in your own skin and that means giving careful attention to your personal aesthetics plan. Piroska Cavell, Founder and Medical Director, explains why consultation is such an important part of your aesthetics journey.

Tell me what you see

We’ll begin your consultation with a good look in the mirror. I want to know what you see. Hearing you describe what you want to refine, lift, plump or refresh in your face or body is essential to developing a plan that delivers what you are looking for. If you have a special occasion in mind, we’ll talk about timing too, to help you feel fabulous on the big day.

Your lifestyle

My goal in every consultation is to build a full picture of the journey your skin, face and body has been on – no judgement though, my focus is on helping match how you feel on the inside with how you look on the outside.

Lifestyle choices can have an impact on the longevity and the suitability of treatments. There will be plenty of options for us to discuss.

Medical history

Your previous aesthetic treatments as well as medical conditions can influence choices available to you when it comes the type and timing of treatments in your personal plan.

I’ll be checking for contraindications as well as considering factors such as age or weight. As we age, hormones can play a role in changing the texture or elasticity of our skin. Being overweight can trigger an inflammatory response in our skin. These are all things that might need to be factored into your personalised plan and discussed in our consultation.

Strategies for targeted results

As we talk, I’ll be looking at the dynamic muscles in your face and which expressions are your most frequent. For example, we might plan to target your complexion’s texture or tone directly, whereas lifting skin around the mouth or jaw might be resolved with Botox or filler treatments in upper portions of the face.

Your personalised plan

It’s likely that there’s more than one route to achieving your desired results. We’ll talk through these options so that you can make an informed decision, based on a clear understanding of each treatment.

By the end of your consultation, you’ll have a comprehensive plan that takes all your motivations and concerns into account as well as timing the effects of treatments to be at their best for your special occasion.

The hallmark of a good consultation – whether at Clinic Sese or elsewhere – is that you feel calm and positive about your personalised treatment plan. So when you are ready to proceed, we’ll put your appointments in the diary at the optimum time for you and your desired results.

Christmas Tweakments

There are mere weeks ahead of us before we see friends and family for Christmas and New Year celebrations. It’s the perfect moment to take a moment for ’tweakments’ that will brighten, tighten, plump and smooth your complexion before the exciting days when you most want to feel confident and relaxed in yourself.

Book in your consultation today and together, we’ll work out which course of action is right for you.

Glowing Complexion

Our skin peel is a medical-grade treatment designed by Relife to resurface your skin and tackle fine lines and active acne as well as superficial acne scars and pigmentation.

At Clinic Sese we offer two formulas, one is perfect for skin that is dry, dull tired and flaky, while the other is designed to combat active acne and extremely oily skin. The peel gently removes dead skin cells and debris, to create the appearance of closed pores and reduce superficial pigmentation and acne scarring.

The peel combines three acid compounds to refine skin texture but requires no down time, so you won’t end up looking like Samantha from Sex in the City! Instead you’ll have smoother skin with a refined texture and a healthy glow. The resurfacing treatment can be a one-off but has much better results as a course of six, usually administered two weeks apart.

Hydrated Skin

Profhilo is the injectable treatment of hyaluronic acid that boosts collagen production and attracts and holds water within your skin. It creates a smoother, plumper look to your skin without adding volume. Besides adding a hydrated, glow to the complexion, Prophilo is also ideal for targeting areas such as décolletage, hands and neck.

Mesotherapy is also an injectable treatment, but works at a deeper level that Profhilo including the delicate under area, where it can used to rehydrate the orbital zone and brighten under-eye shadows. Mesotherapy is effective at reducing hyper pigmentation – either as a result of age or UV damage.

There is very little downtime on each of these treatments and can be safely combined with Botox and Dermal Fillers.

Smooth Away Lines & Creases

Lines are signs that we’ve been living life to the full, but that doesn’t mean we have to live with crows’ feet, laughter lines and furrows between our brows. Applying measured doses of Botox or Dermal Filler to pinpoint troublesome areas will smooth lines and soften wrinkles. The treatment can take a couple of weeks to settle, so book now to ensure you have time for a pre-Christmas review with Piroska.

We are taking appointments up to 22 December and will reopen the Clinic for treatments timed to look their best for New Year’s Eve from 27-30 December. We will re open for 2022 on 3 January.

Piroska’s Career Transformation Story

Sprinkling Stardust For Christmas

Are you dreaming of a fresh, rejuvenated face this Christmas? As anyone who’s ever cooked a festive roast dinner will tell you – timing is everything. Just as you wouldn’t roast the turkey in November or stir up a Christmas pudding on Christmas morning – you need to give each treatment the right time it needs to achieve the results you are looking for.

Our signature consultation

Every Christmas treatment plan begins with a consultation that’s all about you.

We’ll talk about what you see in the mirror; what you want to lift, smooth, plump or define. Besides your medical history and your experience of previous aesthetic treatments, we’ll also talk about your Christmas plans. We can plan and schedule treatments to ensure you are feeling and looking your best on your target date.

Recipes for target results

… smooth and lift

At Clinic Sese, we only use genuine Botox treatments to inject small carefully measured doses to pin-point specific muscles. By relaxing particular dynamic parts of the face, this treatment will smooth wrinkles and reduce fine lines.

Botox is especially useful in treating lines around the eyes or on your forehead, as this is where people typically see lots of dynamic movement in their face.

Time:  Botox is best scheduled for two weeks before special events. This will closely coincide with our two-week review of your initial treatment. This gives me an opportunity to review the effects of the Botox treatment and to apply any additional doses if required.

Duration:  The effects of Botox treatment generally last for 3-6 months.

… plump & lift (plus brighten under eye shadows)

Fillers are used to replace volume in lips and cheeks that has been lost due to the natural process of ageing. They can also be used for soothing deep or fine facial lines, or contouring and defining jawlines and chins. Fillers are also a flexible and effective treatment that can offer an alternative to facelifts or rhinoplasty as well as addressing eye issues such as dark circles or deep tear-troughs.

An aspect of aesthetics that is very useful is that treatments can be reversed either by time, or in the case of fillers, by dissolving them. If you aren’t happy with your existing fillers, this is something that we can resolve and we can talk about this in your consultation.

Time:  The impact of fillers will be visible immediately.

Duration:  Fillers can last for 6-18 months. It depends on lifestyle factors as well as how dynamic facial muscles are. This is something we can talk about in our consultation.

… hydrate and rejuvenate

Profhilo is a patented treatment of injectable collagen and elastin boosting hyaluronic acid. It’s a great treatment for rejuvenating ageing skin – essentially tightening, smoothing, rehydrating and brightening the complexion. It’s suitable for use on the face, neck and décolletage and is popular thanks to the way it can dramatically improve skin texture and elasticity.

Time:  The standard protocol for treatment time is two initial treatments, four weeks apart followed by maintenance every six months. Alternatively the protocol can be one treatment every three months depending on the are to be treated.

…. lift, smooth and tighten

Thread lifts are a relatively new, non-surgical procedure that offer a great longer-lasting, alternative to Botox and Fillers. There are lots of different types of threads; each one is designed to lift specific areas such as mid-face, lower face, jaw, neck and décolletage. Some of the smallest threads create subtle but significant changes to the face by smoothing fine lines, improving skin quality, tightening the chin and/or jawline, reducing eye bags and lifting lips.

Time:  The results of thread lifts are immediate.

Duration:  Thread lifts are a long lasting treatment that continue to be effective for two to three years.

Once more, with feeling

Unlike Santa, clients don’t just see me once at Christmas-time. Nearly all aesthetic treatments are followed up with a second appointment to top-up or review the results. I love these appointments and I think my clients do too. They express all kinds of emotions from relief to confidence when they describe how they ‘recognise’ themselves in the mirror again.

Isn’t it time you booked your consultation and worked on your Christmas wish-list?

Piroska’s Career Transformation Story

Countdown to Self Care this Christmas

The countdown to Christmas has begun. Adverts and promotions are working to create a sense of urgency so even the most chilled among us will be aware of the tasks and expectations that on the horizon. Quite frankly, too many of us are too stressed out to enjoy the fun.

Piroska Cavell has a strategy for festive self care that goes beyond the clinic – but before we get to that, we need to take a look at how the most common self-medicating strategies are stopping us from having a magical Christmas-time.

What is self-medicating anyway?

In the countdown to Christmas do you catch yourself entertaining the idea that drinking more alcohol is inevitable and good? The sort of feeling that makes you say things like, “Well… go on then, it is nearly Christmas.” This is how we jump on to the slippery slope of drinking more alcohol and reducing the days in the week when we are alcohol-free.

Maybe smoking is your favourite stress reliever. Perhaps you treat it as a reward, a moment to take a breath and enjoy a child-free moment. Just a couple of minutes to inhale and quell a feeling of rising anxiety.

Comfort eating can be especially tempting at the time of year. Isn’t it totally normal to snack on an endless supply of salty cheesy biscuits in the shape of Christmas trees? We are but human.

At other (warmer) times of year we might choose to go for a walk, a run, a swim… addressing our feelings of anxiety and overwhelm with a satisfying, sweaty hit of dopamine and endorphins instead of reaching for a cigarette, a vape, a bottle or a packet of crisps.

Often we treat these self-medicating strategies as the cause of our worries. But giving ourselves a hard time for the things we do when we are stressed can send us on a self-perpetuating spiral of emotional distress and poor decision making.

When we identify drinking, smoking, comfort eating as a signpost that we are overwhelmed, anxious and feeling out of control, then we can start to deal with the issues that are weighing us down.

That said, alcohol, nicotine, tobacco, salty/sugary treats can take a toll on our physical wellbeing and that will show up in our energy levels, in our skin and even in our relationships.

It’s at this point that many of us might march impulsively into a hairdressers or a beauty salon for an alternative resolution for our emotional distress:

The Regret Cut

There are few of us that haven’t been there. When we want all the things to change… we look at our hair and start thinking a new style will make all the things better.

Once we are on the wrong side of the Regret Cut, we realise that we should have had a good night’s sleep between booking the appointment and putting ourselves in the hairdresser’s chair.

But you know, this is not the worst thing we could do. The great thing about the Regret Cut is that it will grow out, it can be re-coloured. It’s not actually final. Taking big bold decisions can be exciting and life-affirming – and who’s to say we shouldn’t ever reach for that?

The Cut-rate Tweakment

No. Just no. Unlike the Regret Cut, a spontaneous, cut-price skin peel or injectable filler or muscle relaxant can be downright damaging to your skin and/or your health.

Aesthetic beauty treatments and injectables can absolutely make us feel better (I wrote an article about that), but you only have one face.

Please do not put your health and well being in the hands of a non-medically-qualified beautician who doesn’t know how they might deal with potential side effects or health risks.

If you are interested in advanced anti-ageing aesthetics, it’s a much better idea to take your beautiful face to a CQC-registered clinic for a consultation so that the money you spend will actually achieve the result that you want to see.

What’s stressing you out?

From what you’ve read so far, you’ll be able to place yourself somewhere along the spectrum of self-medicating and spontaneous bad decision making. Maybe you like the occasional fag, but you’ve not dyed your hair green yet. Alternatively you might be training for a boozy Christmas and eating marzipan fruits for your five-a-day – we are all on our own special journey!

Now it’s time to work out what’s behind your feelings of Christmas stress? What’s on your mind as you think about Christmas, your goals, your health your self-medicating strategies?

Write it out. Let the random ideas, gift ideas, tasks, family commitments, relationship thoughts, funny moments, good times spill out of your brain.

Write it all down. Take a breath, drink some water and write some more.

The exercise here is to get the jumble of thoughts out of your head and in a place where you can put them in perspective and work out why some things matter and some… don’t.

Maybe you’ll organise your list of actions. Perhaps you can prioritise which tasks need actioning now, later, tomorrow or just, sometime when you get the chance but it’s okay if it doesn’t actually happen…

Working out what’s at the root of your feelings of stress, anxiety, rage, overwhelm, sadness… can sometimes take practice. Some people can tap into their thoughts quickly and accurately, but most of us have a lifetime of self-coping strategies that mask what’s really bothering us.

This layering of stresses and coping strategies is why writing things out often develops into journalling where people take a little time every day or whenever they feel like to write out how they feel about their day. No-one deals with everything all in one go.

Set a goal. Make a plan.

With all your ideas and thoughts for Christmas in front of you, you can start to identify your goal and plan the steps towards your goal for the time between now and Christmas.

Say you want to feel calm and ready on Christmas morning. So create a plan that involves taking a minute or two each day to feel calm. Practice makes perfect.

Now add in the tasks that will help you strengthen that feeling of calm – say prioritising the gift buying plan and diarising your food shopping. Maybe write up a list of the treats that you’ll buy early so you can spread the costs out across November and December.

Maybe you are concerned that you don’t have the energy to meet and enjoy all your commitments. So you’ll need to think about your sleep and energy goals.

Make a plan to avoid tricky combinations of late nights and early mornings. Shift your bedtime routine to create a calmer transition towards sleep, maybe eat earlier, drink less alcohol or coffee, meditate for a few minutes before going to bed.

Are you fuelled for a healthy Christmas? Feast days are part and parcel of the festive season, but that doesn’t mean accepting over-eating as the new normal. Healthy weight management and good nutrition is something you can choose to maintain throughout the winter months.

A healthy diet packed with minerals and vitamins can make a significant difference to your state of mind and your physical resilience, but if you feel your energy levels and enthusiasm for exercise are always on the down low, maybe you could think about the benefits of injectable vitamin supplements.

Hormones and vitamins have a close working relationship and can help to lift feelings of brain fog and fatigue. Boosting your nutritional levels under medical supervision doesn’t just help you get more done in the day. Lowering your stress levels also reduces the amount of cortisol flooding through your body; stimulating your body to store up fats for an unidentified future crisis.

Do you want to feel great about how you look this Christmas?

Whatever your goals are for the way you look and feel about your body, your skin or your shape, Clinic Sese is always a safe space for you to off load your thoughts and lighten your emotional load.

When you meet with our Medical Director, Piroska Cavell, you’ll discover that you don’t need to be an expert in aesthetics. You’ll be able to talk about what you want to see in the mirror, how you feel about treatments and what your goals are for special days or duration of results.

Piroska will advise you on options, timings, and strategies for a planned course of treatment. You will have time to think things over because Clinic Sese does not provide walk-in spontaneous treatments.

And what if Christmas doesn’t go to plan?

Piroska’s own experience is helpful here. In fact, listening to her talk about it makes you think that maybe no one really wants a picture perfect Christmas anyway.

“I don’t get swept into the commerciality but I do think about it a lot. Mostly about getting family together and thinking about all the silly things I can get them to do. One year it was a family panto. This year might be a sing-off of musical duets. And I search out for seriously crap presents because I think they are funny. The more awful, the better.

“My family’s loss (of dignity) is my gain. All the laughs make it easier to survive the rubbish moments. Like the time I dropped the turkey out of the oven as family walked in the door. That was the Christmas spent in a cold shower washing hot fat off my legs!

Or when the cat recreated the Texas Chainsaw Massacre with the turkey and I had to do battle in Asda to secure the last turkey in town. Did I win? Who cares? I’m choosing to remember what Snow White got up to with Dopey in the best panto ever!”

Piroska’s Career Transformation Story

Piroska's Career Transformation Story

Clinic Sese’s Founder and Medical Director, Piroska Cavell, is no stranger to transformation. Her unique career path has given her an exceptional, empathetic understanding of how her patients want their outside appearance to reflect their inner selves.

Piroska’s first career as a hairdresser and make up artist was at heart of the makeover industry; working with Covershots International, creating transformational looks for women who had previously not felt comfortable in their own skin.

When crossdressers and trans-women began asking for similar support, Piroska was inspired by the joy and relief that they expressed and set up her own photographic and makeover studio.

“We would take them on some mind-blowing location shoots – including photographing our trans-women outside their offices. When none of their colleagues recognised them – I could see how happy they were to bring together these divergent parts of their lives.”

Following a move to Manchester and having family, Piroska turned 40 and began wanting to make a change for herself. Midwifery would require long hours of studying and night shifts, but it would also draw on Piroska’s ability to listen and care for women in their most life-changing moments.

Rising up through the ranks to Midwifery Lead for Elective Caesarean Sections at the Conquest Hospital in Hastings, East Sussex, Piroska’s midwifery career was looking and feeling like a life choice. A chance encounter Dr Zack Ally, the Founder and Principal Trainer of Derma Medical, however, meant that Piroska would makeover her career for a second time.

The opportunity to combine her professional medical skills with advanced aesthetic treatments and effective weight management techniques – all in a safe, regulated environment – made complete sense to Piroska. Over the course of both her beauty and midwifery work, she had seen how women and men were identifying a mismatch between the way they feel on the inside with how they looked on the outside.

The world of aesthetics would blend Piroska’s nursing background with her empathetic ability to understand the transformation patients are seeking; combining her medical expertise with injection artistry, vision and insight, always with the highest level of care.

“Patients have my ear. I like to listen. For me, it’s always been about how people feel – once I used make-up and hairdressing, then I raised my game to nursing and midwifery, I feel aesthetics combine the best of both worlds. My biggest kick is when patients leave looking and feeling happy in their skin.”

We believe feeling good about yourself comes from building a unique relationship between you and your clinician. Discover your best self – book your consultation with Piroska Cavell at Clinic Sese at The Crescent Turner in Whitstable.
